Tax Credit renewal deadline is looming
If you are claiming Tax Credits you should have received your annual renewal pack from HMRC. The renewal will ensure that the amount you received in the previous year was correct, that your payments are adjusted according to changes in income and circumstances, and that you are still entitled to Tax Credits.
You need to check the information in your renewal pack carefully and tell the Tax Credit office immediately if anything has changed or if the details are wrong or incomplete. If incorrect information is submitted you may be underpaid or overpaid for the next year; the latter will result in deductions being taken from future Tax Credit awards.
If you expect your income in the current year (2019/20) to decrease or increase by more than £2,500 compared with the previous tax year (2018/19), it is important to tell HMRC now, as it may need to adjust your award.
To renew your Tax Credits award, it is helpful to have the following documents relating to the year 6 April 2018 to 5 April 2019 to hand:
- P60, P45 or your March payslip;
- Registered childcare provider bills;
- Tax Credit award notices from throughout the year;
- Annual Personal Pension Plan statements;
- Taxable state benefits e.g. Contribution Based Jobseeker’s Allowance; and/or
- Other income, such as interest on savings.
If your renewal pack has a red line across it and it says ‘Reply Now’ the Tax Credits renewal deadline is the 31 July 2019. If you don’t renew your Tax Credits award on time your payments will stop.
You can contact the HMRC Tax Credits Helpline on 0345 300 3900. You can give your information over the phone, online or by posting the renewal form back to HMRC in the envelope provided with the form.
When you do not need to renew
If your renewal pack says ‘Check Now’, check your details to make sure they’re correct.
You do not need to do anything if your details are correct. Your Tax Credits will be automatically renewed.
